Doha, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Municipality destroyed 78 consignments weighing 36.68 tones during inspections in the month of July for violating the Agricultural Quarantine Law and pest infection control.

Agricultural Quarantine Offices inspected 5,452 agricultural consignments weighing 84,712 tones of various types of imported agricultural consignments (vegetable consignments and production ingredients), at all customs ports in the country.

Agricultural quarantine is the first line of defense to protect plants from agricultural pests and is a preventive measure, which aims to protect the plant wealth in the country from the risk of pest infestation from outside the country, the Ministry said on its website.

“All plants, agricultural products, and any other materials are required to subject to phytosanitary regulations and quarantine procedures, and other agricultural production inputs should conform to applicable conditions and specifications.”
