Qatar Education ministry to provide healthy meals to students at nominal prices

Doha, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education of Qatar has affirmed its keenness to provide nutritious meals with healthy standards in school canteens at nominal prices.

In a circular distributed to public school principals, the Ministry specified a list of food items in school canteens for the academic year 2022–2023, noting that it will provide free meals in these canteens daily for some students.

The Ministry noted that suppliers must commit themselves to providing meals in accordance with the approved nominal prices and the required nutritional standards and guidelines for the State of Qatar, based on the food items that must be served daily, so two items from all groups are available daily, as well as food items served once a week. Furthermore, certain prohibited foods must not be served in school canteens.

The ministry indicated that the food menu in school canteens shall include a detailed explanation of the three mentioned daily, weekly, and prohibited food items, with an emphasis on the need to observe the required nutritional standards required for each category in canteens.

In a related context, the ministry pointed out that a set of special dishes, soups, and hot drinks are provided only to students of preparatory and secondary schools.
