Quezon City, The Gulf Observer: The Quirino Memorial Medical Center (QMMC) is set to enhance its neonatal care services following a PHP6.75-million donation from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) for the procurement of five state-of-the-art neonatal incubators.

The donation, officially turned over during a ceremony on Monday, was facilitated through the efforts of Quezon City 3rd District Representative Franz Pumaren. The initiative addresses QMMC’s urgent need for modern neonatal equipment to meet the growing demand for newborn care, particularly among patients from underserved communities.

QMMC, a government-run tertiary hospital widely known as the “Labor Hospital,” serves thousands of mothers and infants annually, many of whom require critical neonatal support.

PAGCOR Vice President for the Corporate Social Responsibility Group, Ramon Stephen Villaflor, led the ceremonial turnover at the hospital’s boardroom, handing over the donation check to QMMC Medical Center Chief Dr. Evelyn Reside.

Villaflor reaffirmed PAGCOR’s commitment to public health, stating, “PAGCOR recognizes the vital role that institutions like QMMC play in safeguarding the lives of mothers and newborns. Through this donation, we aim to help ensure access to safer and more efficient medical care, especially among the poor.”

Dr. Reside expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting the pressing need for enhanced neonatal equipment at the hospital. “With the increasing number of childbirths we handle daily, having additional and updated neonatal incubators will make a significant difference in ensuring the survival and well-being of our premature and at-risk infants,” she said.

Rep. Pumaren noted that the donation aligns with efforts to elevate the standard of public healthcare to rival that of private institutions. “This will allow the hospital to expand its capabilities and better serve our constituents, particularly newborns needing specialized care,” he said.

The five new incubators are expected to substantially improve QMMC’s capacity to provide critical care to vulnerable infants, reinforcing its role as a key public maternity and neonatal facility in Metro Manila.
