QRCS distributes medicines and medical consumables to Gaza hospitals

Doha, The Gulf Observer: In response to the humanitarian appeal issued by Palestine’s Ministry of Health (MoH) in Gaza, the representation office of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) there has provided MoH hospitals with a first batch of medicines and medical consumables.

Aimed at helping the hospitals to continue providing health services for the wounded, these QR729,000 supplies are part of QRCS’s emergency intervention to relieve those affected by the war on Gaza.

Assistant General Manager of Pharmacy at MoH Dr. Zikri Abu Qamar said the ministry’s warehouses had 48% and 28% shortages in medicines and medical consumables, respectively, just one day prior to the war.

He added, “The recent support from QRCS covers about 10% of our needs. I call on international organizations and donors to secure more medical aid, in order to reduce the current $3 million shortage, as large numbers of injuries are received by hospitals every day.”

A team from QRCS’s office in Gaza visited Palestine Red Crescent Society’s (PRCS) Al Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis, to monitor the provision of medical care and talk to the injured.

QRCS had already provided two operating rooms at Al Amal Hospital with medical equipment. Medicines, medical equipment, and supplies are being delivered to the hospital, to ensure continuity of services. Also, QRCS is planning to install solar panels at the hospital, to deal with the fuel shortage in the blockade.

According to a PRCS report, Al Amal Hospital has since 7 October 2023 provided emergency health care for nearly 490 wounded people. This support is part of QRCS’s $1m intervention announced a few days ago, to provide critically needed medicines, medical supplies, ambulance vehicles, food, and nonfood items (NFIs).
