Ramadan in Oman Begins on March 12, 2024

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Main Committee for Ramadan Moon Sighting has officially declared that Tuesday, March 12, 2024, will mark the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan in Oman. The announcement was made following a meeting where it was reported that the crescent moon of the holy month was not sighted during the evening.

The Oman News Agency conveyed the decision, stating, “The day after tomorrow (Tuesday) is the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan of the year 1445 AH, due to the lack of confirmation of sighting the crescent of the holy month this evening.”

The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs (MERA) elaborated on the decision, stating that the Main Committee for Moon Sighting convened to discuss the evidence presented and concluded that there was no confirmation of the crescent sighting. Consequently, Monday, March 11, 2024, will conclude the month of Sha’ban 1445 AH, and Tuesday, March 12, 2024, will officially commence the Holy Month of Ramadan 1445 AH.

This formal announcement sets the stage for the commencement of Ramadan in Oman, marking a period of spiritual reflection, communal devotion, and increased acts of charity and goodwill within the Muslim community. The decision was reached in accordance with established lunar sighting procedures, underscoring the commitment to accuracy and authenticity in determining the beginning of Ramadan.
