Romania and Moldova Strengthen Economic Ties and European Integration

Romania

Bucharest, The Gulf Observer: Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Țoiu held a high-level meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu, focusing on economic development and strengthening the strategic connection of Chisinau with the European space. The discussions covered key points of the bilateral partnership and ongoing government-level projects.

Highlighting Romania’s pivotal role in Moldova’s economy, Minister Țoiu noted that Romania remains the Republic of Moldova’s most significant commercial partner, accounting for over 20% of total foreign trade. Bilateral trade between the two countries has exceeded 3 billion euros, with promising growth prospects for the upcoming year, driven by Romanian entrepreneurs operating in Moldova and the active engagement of the Romanian diaspora.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized ongoing infrastructure projects, including the construction of the first new bridge over the Prut River in decades at Ungheni. This development is expected to strengthen Moldova’s connection with Romania and the European Union at the highway level, while facilitating trade logistics and regional economic integration.

As part of the visit, Minister Țoiu presented a symbolic gift of Romanian books to the initiative “The Library Under the Tree,” launched by the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The gesture underscores ongoing cross-Prut projects aimed at promoting the shared language and cultural heritage between the two nations.
