Romania Begins Construction of “Historical Gallery of Transylvania” – First New Museum in a Century

Cluj-Napoca, The Gulf Observer: The town of Florești, located near Cluj-Napoca, has commenced the construction of the “Historical Gallery of Transylvania” Museum Complex, marking a historic milestone as the first museum built from scratch in Romania in the past 100 years. The investment, amounting to RON 145.8 million (EUR 29.2 million), underscores Romania’s commitment to preserving and showcasing its rich cultural heritage.
Spanning a total surface area of 15,583 square meters, the museum is dedicated to celebrating the diverse ethnic groups that call Transylvania home. The building itself covers 11,127 square meters and will feature three levels: a basement, ground floor, and first floor. The complex will also include parking spaces and green areas, designed to host various cultural activities.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Bogdan Pivariu, the Mayor of Florești, emphasized the cultural significance of the project:
“We are marking a special moment in our cultural history with the launch of this important project. This will be the first museum built from scratch in Romania in the last 100 years, representing a symbol of the values and diversity of the ethnic groups living in Transylvania.”
The mayor further highlighted the museum’s interactive nature, designed not only to educate visitors about Transylvania’s rich and diverse history but also to promote socialization and community interaction.
Once completed, the Historical Gallery of Transylvania will stand as a testament to Romania’s dedication to fostering cultural understanding and unity through its remarkable heritage.
