Russia and Egypt Reaffirm Support for Syrian Sovereignty in High-Level Discussion

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdel Atty held a telephone conversation to discuss the ongoing situation in Syria, emphasizing their strong support for the country’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement detailing the discussion, highlighting a comprehensive exchange of views on key Middle Eastern issues, with a particular focus on developments in Syria.

Both parties underscored the importance of a proactive role by the UN Secretary-General and his Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, in consolidating international efforts to support stabilization and civil peace in Syria. They reiterated the need for an inclusive, Syrian-led political process in line with the principles outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
