Russian and U.S. Top Diplomats Discuss Bilateral Ties and Global Issues in Phone Call

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation to discuss bilateral relations and global affairs, agreeing to maintain regular contact, including preparations for a potential meeting between President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump. The conversation was reported by Xinhua, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry.
During the discussion, both sides emphasized the importance of open communication channels to address outstanding issues in bilateral ties. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Lavrov and Rubio particularly focused on eliminating unilateral obstacles inherited from the previous U.S. administration that have hindered mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, economy, and investment.
The two diplomats agreed to convene an expert-level meeting in the near future to outline specific measures aimed at resolving operational challenges faced by their diplomatic missions in each other’s countries.
Additionally, Lavrov and Rubio expressed their readiness to collaborate on pressing international matters, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the Palestinian situation, and broader stability in the Middle East and other regions.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to acting within the framework established by their respective presidents, pledging joint efforts to revive a mutually respectful dialogue between the two nations.
