Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned the recent deadly attacks on camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in El Fasher, Zamzam, and Abu Shouk in Sudan’s western Darfur region. The assaults, which reportedly left scores dead and injured, including children, have drawn international concern and outrage.

In an official statement, the Ministry conveyed the Kingdom’s heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and extended its wishes for a swift recovery to those injured in the tragic incidents.

Saudi Arabia emphasized that such attacks represent a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law. The Ministry reiterated the Kingdom’s firm rejection of these violations and underlined the urgent need to safeguard relief workers and humanitarian operations in conflict zones.

The statement further stressed the critical importance of an immediate halt to hostilities and the imperative to avoid targeting civilians. It called for the full and immediate implementation of the Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan, signed on May 11, 2023, as a necessary step toward restoring peace and protecting innocent lives.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), more than 100 people, including at least 20 children, are feared dead following coordinated ground and aerial attacks launched on Friday by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the besieged city of El Fasher and the nearby displacement camps of Zamzam and Abu Shouk.

The RSF, which has been engaged in a deadly conflict with Sudan’s regular army since April 2023, has intensified its military campaign in the region, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Darfur.

Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peace initiatives and diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict in Sudan and ensuring the protection of civilians.
