Saudi Arabia Participates in 65th General Assembly of WIPO in Geneva
Geneva, The Gulf Observer: Saudi Arabia is actively participating in the 65th General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which commenced on Tuesday and will conclude on July 17.
The Saudi delegation is headed by Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Suwailem, CEO of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP).
In his opening remarks, Dr. Al-Suwailem praised the recent diplomatic conference that adopted the WIPO treaty on intellectual property, genetic resources, and associated traditional knowledge. He emphasized Saudi Arabia’s significant advancements in intellectual property over the past year, highlighting a substantial trust fund contribution to WIPO amounting to approximately SR21 million ($5.5 million).
Dr. Al-Suwailem proposed the establishment of an annual day to honor intellectual property examiners globally, recognizing their vital contributions to the field. He also extended an invitation to member states to attend the upcoming diplomatic conference on design law, scheduled to be held in Riyadh in November.
In conjunction with the assembly, the Saudi Tourism Authority is presenting the “Spirit of Saudi Arabia” exhibition, showcasing the country’s cultural and historical heritage.
During the event, SAIP is expected to sign several agreements with WIPO and member states, further strengthening international cooperation in the realm of intellectual property.
