Saudi Arabia to Host UNESCO Mondiacult 2029 Conference

Saudi Arabia to Host UNESCO Mondiacult 2029 Conference

Madrid, The Gulf Observer: Saudi Arabia has been selected to host the next UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development (Mondiacult) in 2029, UNESCO announced during its ongoing session in Spain.

Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan welcomed the decision, reaffirming the Kingdom’s strong partnership with UNESCO and its commitment to advancing global cultural development.

Mondiacult serves as a leading international platform for dialogue on culture and the shaping of cultural policies. First convened in Mexico in 1982, the conference was revived in 2022, with Saudi Arabia actively supporting Mexico’s hosting and leading the regional consultations for the Arab world.

Hosting Mondiacult 2029 is expected to bring significant cultural and developmental benefits to the Kingdom, from fostering innovation and creativity to influencing the global cultural policy agenda.

The decision aligns with Saudi Arabia’s wider efforts to highlight culture’s role in sustainable development, notably underscored by its leadership in organizing the first-ever G20 culture ministers’ meeting in 2020, which established the cultural track within the G20 framework.
