Saudi Crown Prince, Syrian Interim President Discuss Security and Stability in First Official Visit
Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with Syrian interim President Ahmed Al-Sharaa on his first foreign visit since taking office, discussing efforts to support the security and stability of the Syrian Arab Republic.
During their meeting, held in Riyadh, the leaders reviewed bilateral relations and explored opportunities for enhanced cooperation across various sectors. They also exchanged views on regional developments and ongoing diplomatic efforts to address key challenges.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman congratulated Al-Sharaa on his recent appointment and expressed hope for his success in fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people.
Following the discussions, Al-Sharaa emphasized Saudi Arabia’s commitment to Syria’s future, stating: “We held a long meeting during which we felt and heard a genuine desire to support Syria in building its future.” His remarks were shared in a statement on Telegram.
Al-Sharaa was appointed interim president by military commanders weeks after militant forces took control of Damascus.
The visit follows a recent diplomatic initiative by Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, who traveled to Damascus last month. During his visit, Prince Faisal reaffirmed the Kingdom’s engagement with the United States and European partners in discussions aimed at easing economic sanctions imposed on Syria, which have severely impacted the country’s economy.
