Saudi Foreign Minister Reaffirms Support for Palestinian Statehood at UNGA Meeting

New York, The Gulf Observer: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan reaffirmed that Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, constitute an indivisible Palestinian land, during a high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance to Implement the Two-State Solution held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly.
Co-chairing the meeting alongside the European Union and Norway, Prince Faisal said the recently adopted New York Declaration represents a “historic international consensus” to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state.
“We meet today one year after launching our joint initiative, which the Kingdom is honored to co-chair with the EU and Norway, and just days after the General Assembly adopted the New York Declaration—a historic international consensus to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state,” he stated in his opening remarks.
The Saudi minister stressed that the declaration provides a mandate to transform consensus into binding commitments and accountability mechanisms. “Issuing statements is not enough unless they translate into real action that changes the reality of occupation and its aggression,” he said.
Prince Faisal also recalled the recent peace summit co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, which reinforced broad recognition of the State of Palestine, and highlighted that this growing momentum strengthens international resolve to uphold Palestinians’ right to self-determination.
Condemning Israel’s “ongoing genocide, famine, and violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites,” he said recent attacks had even threatened the sovereignty of Arab states, “most recently the State of Qatar.”
He underlined that the meeting sought to coordinate efforts, establish performance indicators, and set clear accountability timelines while advancing joint work across regional and international capitals. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s rejection of annexation, settlement expansion, and forced displacement, while calling for strengthening the Palestinian Authority, supporting the Arab-Islamic recovery and reconstruction plan, and creating an international accountability mechanism.
Prince Faisal concluded by stressing that the Kingdom will continue to lead diplomatic and humanitarian efforts “to establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, paving the way for just and lasting peace, shared security, and prosperity for all peoples of the region.”
