Serdar Berdimuhamedov Announces Completion of Mary–Turkmenabat Section of Ashgabat–Turkmenabat Highway

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced the completion of the strategically significant Mary–Turkmenabat section of the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat high-speed highway during a working visit to the Lebap velayat, where he also attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a new industrial facility.
The President underscored that the timely completion of this major infrastructure project holds great importance for the development of Turkmenistan’s national transport and logistics system and the strengthening of the country’s transit potential.
The Ashgabat–Turkmenabat highway, spanning a total of 600 kilometers, represents one of Turkmenistan’s largest infrastructure undertakings and serves as a modern continuation of the historic Great Silk Road. The project is being implemented in three phases: the Ashgabat–Tejen section (203 km), completed in October 2021; the Tejen–Mary section (109 km), completed in April 2024; and the Mary–Turkmenabat section (288 km), now entering its final stage of completion.
The commissioning of this final and longest segment will ensure seamless and high-speed connectivity between the capital and the eastern regions of the country, while also facilitating faster transit cargo movement to Uzbekistan and further access to continental transport corridors. The six-lane highway is equipped with advanced traffic management systems and modern road service facilities that meet international standards.
Highlighting Turkmenistan’s ongoing commitment to balanced regional development, President Berdimuhamedov also noted the construction of a new, modern complex at the Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute in Turkmenabat.
He emphasized that programmatic efforts to ensure the comprehensive development of the velayats and the establishment of modern industrial, social, and cultural infrastructure will continue consistently, reaffirming Turkmenistan’s steadfast course toward industrialization and improving citizens’ quality of life.
