Series of Suicide Bombings in Nigeria Leave 18 Dead and 30 Injured

Borno State, The Gulf Observer: At least 18 people were killed and 30 others injured in a series of attacks by suspected female suicide bombers in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno state, according to Barkindo Saidu, the Director General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency.

The tragic incidents occurred on Saturday, targeting a wedding, a funeral, and a hospital in the town of Gwoza. The attacks have resulted in the deaths of children, adults, and pregnant women. The injuries sustained range from abdominal ruptures to skull and limb fractures.

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. Borno state police have not yet commented on the incidents.

Borno state has been a focal point of a 15-year-long insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions. Despite efforts by the Nigerian military to diminish the capabilities of militant groups, attacks on civilians and security targets persist.

Boko Haram and its splinter group, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), remain the most active terrorist organizations in the region, continuing to pose significant threats to the local population.
