Sharjah Airport Launches Direct Air Arabia Flights to Addis Ababa

Sharjah, The Gulf Observer: Sharjah Airport marked a significant milestone on Thursday with the inaugural direct flight of Air Arabia to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, expanding the airport’s growing network of direct destinations.

Air Arabia will operate three weekly flights between Sharjah and Addis Ababa on Saturdays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, utilizing an Airbus A320 aircraft.

The inaugural flight ceremony was attended by Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA); Sheikh Faisal Bin Saoud Al Qassimi, Director of SAA; Ambassador Aklilu Kebede Erena, Consul-General of Ethiopia to the UAE; Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia; Asmelash Bekele Weldemariam, Deputy Consul-General of Ethiopia, along with other senior officials.

Al Midfa highlighted that the new service reinforces Sharjah Airport’s commitment to expanding its network across African cities and capitals, catering to the increasing demand for passenger and cargo transportation between the UAE and Ethiopia.

He noted that bilateral economic, trade, and tourism relations have seen a steady upward trajectory, fostering growth in various sectors such as tourism, freight, exports, and re-exports.

Ambassador Erena emphasized that the new route serves as a vital bridge strengthening cultural and commercial ties between Ethiopia and the UAE while facilitating smoother passenger movement. He expressed confidence that the service would pave the way for increased cooperation in the aviation sector, with the potential for daily flights in response to growing demand.

Al Ali stated that the launch of the direct Sharjah-Addis Ababa flights aligns with Air Arabia’s commitment to providing affordable and reliable air travel while enhancing connectivity across its expanding network.
