Sharjah Illuminated with Dazzling Displays as 13th Sharjah Light Festival Inaugurates
Sharjah, The Gulf Observer: The 13th Sharjah Light Festival (SLF) commenced in grandeur on Wednesday evening at 8:00 PM, illuminating the Emirate of Sharjah with an extraordinary display of artistic lights across various locations. Organized by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), the festival, which runs from 7th to 18th February, captivated audiences with its inaugural ceremony at the Sharjah Police Headquarters.
The festivities began with a mesmerizing light show at the iconic Sharjah Police Headquarters, transforming the architectural marvel into a breathtaking work of art. Attendees were taken on a visual journey that portrayed the rich history and identity of Sharjah and the UAE, while also showcasing the emirate’s ambitious and futuristic vision through illuminated symbols.
Prominent heads of authorities, departments, entities, distinguished personalities, and visiting delegations graced the opening ceremony, which featured a dedicated film honoring H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
In his opening speech, Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of the SCTDA, emphasized the significance of the tourism sector in Sharjah, acknowledging its vital role in supporting the national economy. Al Midfa highlighted the remarkable progress in tourism, attributing it to the visionary leadership of H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah. He praised the Sharjah Light Festival as a major tourist attraction, drawing substantial attention and media interest year after year.
Al Midfa underscored the festival’s role in showcasing Sharjah’s unique features, achievements, and future vision to thousands of visitors and tourists, locally and globally. He emphasized the festival’s impact on enhancing the emirate’s standing, identity, cultural heritage, and legacy, while also providing substantial socioeconomic opportunities for more than 80 national small and medium-sized enterprises this year.
Acknowledging the festival’s success, Al Midfa expressed gratitude to the strategic partners from both the government and private sectors whose ongoing support and contributions played a pivotal role in creating an extraordinary event aligned with Sharjah’s prestige and accomplishments.
The 13th edition of SLF features a curated selection of landmarks and destinations that reflect the diversity of Sharjah’s history and culture. With over 15 renowned global artists and specialists, the festival promises immersive shows and installations at 12 premier tourist and cultural landmarks, including three new locations – the Sharjah Police Headquarters, the General Souq – Al Hamriyah, and the Kalba Waterfront.
Established destinations include Khalid Lagoon, Al Majaz Waterfront, BEEAH Group Headquarters, Al Dhaid Fort, Sharjah Mosque, Sheikh Rashid Al Qasimi Mosque, Al Noor Mosque, Al Rafisah Dam, and the much-anticipated SLF ‘Light Village’ in front of the University City Hall in Sharjah, which commenced on February 1st. The festival continues to captivate audiences, solidifying Sharjah’s position on the global tourism map.
