Shavkat Mirziyoyev receives Director-General of FAO
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Thursday received the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dongyu, who arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the International Conference on Food Security.
The Leader of Uzbekistan congratulated the distinguished guest on his re-election to the position of the head of the leading sectoral structure of the United Nations and expressed gratitude for the support and personal participation in the conference, which is taking place these days in the city of Samarkand.
The FAO Director-General congratulated the President of Uzbekistan on the successful implementation of the initiative and the organization at the highest level of an international forum on the current global agenda.
Views were exchanged on countering modern challenges and threats to food security, including at the regional level.
Imbalances in the development of the agricultural sector, shortage of water resources, long and inefficient value chains, failures in logistics, and others were defined as the principal risks of sustainable development.
An agreement was reached to include joint measures to modernize agriculture based on scientific research and innovation, digitalization of the agricultural sector, the implementation of effective financial support tools, and the introduction of effective mechanisms for managing the agri-food system in the new 2030 Cooperation Program between Uzbekistan and FAO.
