Shavkat Mirziyoyev Reviews Proposals to Enhance Social Protection System

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: On 14 February, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev convened a meeting where he was presented with comprehensive proposals aimed at improving the social protection system in Uzbekistan. The President reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its citizens and expanding the array of social services available.

Uzbekistan has been actively working towards bolstering its social protection framework, evident in the decree signed by President Mirziyoyev on 1 June 2023, titled “On a set of measures to provide high-quality social services and assistance to the population, as well as to establish a system for their effective control.” This decree led to the creation of the National Social Protection Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Over the recent period, the agency conducted a thorough analysis of the effectiveness and targeting of the existing social protection system. Identified shortcomings include issues related to fair social assistance at the mahalla level, inadequate financing of social services, and challenges in providing support for the socialization of individuals facing difficult situations.

The presentation featured proposals that address these shortcomings systematically. Going forward, the “seven” mahallas will play a crucial role in identifying the root causes of social problems within families, evaluating existing opportunities, and directing social services to prioritize assisting families facing challenging circumstances.

To ensure a tailored approach, the Sakhovat va Kumak fund will provide assistance based on an individual assessment of each family’s social status. President Mirziyoyev approved these proposals and issued directives for the development and effective implementation of relevant documents.

Furthermore, the President emphasized the consistent implementation of the requirements outlined in the international convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, which Uzbekistan has ratified. This includes enhancing the support system for individuals with disabilities, facilitating their integration into society, and ensuring access to high-quality prosthetic and orthopedic products, as well as rehabilitation means.

The measures outlined in these proposals underscore Uzbekistan’s unwavering commitment to building a robust social protection system that addresses the diverse needs of its population. The government remains dedicated to upholding international standards and fostering inclusivity and support for all citizens, especially those facing challenging circumstances.
