Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan Reviews Environmental Initiatives with EAD Delegation

Al Ain, The Gulf Observer: H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, received a delegation from the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), led by Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of EAD.
During the meeting, Sheikh Hazza was briefed on EAD’s current and future plans for environmental protection across the emirate, reaffirming the agency’s dedication to advancing Abu Dhabi’s environmental agenda and supporting sustainable development.
Sheikh Hazza praised EAD’s efforts in strengthening scientific research, preserving the emirate’s natural heritage, and safeguarding its resources. He emphasized that these initiatives enhance Abu Dhabi’s leadership in environmental conservation, aligning with the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to prioritize sustainability for future generations.
Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri outlined EAD’s strategic priorities, which focus on protecting the environment, conserving natural resources, and promoting sustainability. She highlighted EAD’s management of the Sheikh Zayed Protected Areas Network, encompassing 19 terrestrial and marine reserves, including Jabal Hafit National Park and the Arabian Oryx Protected Area, both of which are dedicated to the protection of endangered species.
Sheikh Hazza was also briefed on EAD’s initiatives to restore natural pastures, promote biodiversity conservation, and ensure the regeneration of native vegetation, particularly in the Al Ain region. The agency’s regulatory measures were discussed, including the use of advanced technologies such as drones and artificial intelligence for monitoring and rehabilitating ecosystems.
Additionally, the EAD delegation presented plans for the Plant Genetic Resources Centre in Al Ain, which will play a pivotal role in preserving and advancing plant biodiversity in the UAE. Updates on Abu Dhabi’s groundwater management programmes were also shared, highlighting sustainable water usage solutions.
The meeting covered the Hydrogeological Mapping Project, aimed at optimizing natural resource management and protecting groundwater reserves to reinforce national water security. Furthermore, EAD reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Abu Dhabi’s circular economy initiatives through sustainable waste management and policy development.
