Shwethaungyan Beach Welcomes Over 19,000 Visitors in May 2025

Pathein, The Gulf Observer: Shwethaungyan Beach in Pathein City, Ayeyawady Region attracted a total of 19,243 tourists and local visitors in May 2025, according to Daw Cherry Myint, an executive of the Union of Myanmar Travel Association (Shwethaungyan Beach).

Known for its scenic coastline and year-round appeal, Shwethaungyan Beach continues to be a favored destination for day-trippers and vacationers alike. The beach area is supported by over 20 hotels and guesthouses, providing essential services and enhancing the visitor experience.

“Most of the visitors in May were day-trippers,” said Daw Cherry Myint. “The nearby Kyauk Maunghnama Elephant Camp, a popular eco-tourism site, also contributes to the beach’s growing appeal.”

Hospitality providers along the beach are actively involved in maintaining the area’s natural charm. Services include beachfront cleaning, landscaping, upkeep of hotel pathways, and serving local culinary delights, all aimed at delivering a clean, relaxing, and culturally rich experience.

To further enhance the visitor offering, the beach features rental services such as bicycles, motorboats, and horse riding, as well as local markets selling regional specialties and souvenirs. Safety measures and relaxation zones are also in place, ensuring a secure and enjoyable environment for all guests.

Located just eight miles from Chaungtha Beach, Shwethaungyan Beach spans four miles and is surrounded by ecosystems that support marine life, benefiting from clean, resource-rich waters. Its pristine environment and growing tourist infrastructure position it as a rising destination in Myanmar’s coastal tourism landscape.
