Storm Goretti Batters France, Leaves Hundreds of Thousands Without Power

Storm Goretti

Paris, The Gulf Observer: Strong winds swept across France on Friday as Storm Goretti struck northern Europe, leaving hundreds of thousands of households without electricity and causing widespread disruption, media reported.

France’s electricity distribution operator Enedis said that around 380,000 households lost power, with the majority of outages reported in the Normandy region and in Brittany.

Overnight, wind gusts exceeding 150 kilometers per hour were recorded in northwestern France, particularly in the Manche region. Authorities reported a record gust of 213 kilometers per hour in the coastal town of Barfleur, highlighting the intensity of the storm.

The severe weather also disrupted transportation, with the SNCF rail operator suspending train services between Paris and the Normandy region as a safety precaution.

Emergency services remained on high alert as strong winds and adverse weather conditions continued to affect parts of the country, while restoration efforts were underway to gradually restore electricity and transport services.
