Sultan Qaboos University Climbs Global Rankings, Strengthens Academic Excellence in QS 2026 Subject Rankings

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: Sultan Qaboos University has recorded significant progress in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, reinforcing its position among leading global academic institutions and highlighting the strength of its academic and research programs.

In this year’s rankings, which assessed 6,273 universities worldwide and ranked 1,908 institutions across 55 disciplines, the university expanded its global academic footprint with 20 programs ranked—up from 17 in 2025. Notably, the number of its programs placed among the world’s top 500 rose from 15 to 19, reflecting marked improvements in quality and performance.

At the top-tier level, Sultan Qaboos University achieved impressive results, with several disciplines securing positions among the world’s top 50. Its petroleum engineering program advanced to 17th place globally, improving from 25th last year, while the nursing program climbed to 25th from 32nd. The library and information management program also secured a strong global standing, ranking 44th.

These achievements underscore the university’s sustained commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and impactful research, further consolidating its reputation on the global higher education stage.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluate institutions based on a range of international indicators, including academic and employer reputation, research citations, H-index, and international research collaboration, with varying weightings depending on each discipline.
