Tajikistan, Ayon Energy Sign Deal to Build Country’s First Large-Scale Solar Power Plants

Tajikistan

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: The Government of Tajikistan and Ayon Energy LLC on January 13 signed an investment agreement for the construction and commissioning of two major photovoltaic power plants, according to media reports.

The State Committee on Investments and State Property Management said the two solar power plants, each with a capacity of 250 megawatts, will be built in the Asht and Jayhun districts. The project marks Tajikistan’s first large-scale solar energy initiative, with a total installed capacity of 500 megawatts, opening a new phase in the country’s development of green energy and modern energy infrastructure.

The project is being implemented in line with directives set out by the President of Tajikistan in his address to the Majlisi Oli, and within the framework of state programs aimed at promoting renewable energy.

Once completed, the solar plants are expected to enhance Tajikistan’s energy independence, reduce seasonal electricity shortages—particularly during the winter months—ease the load on the national energy system, and ensure a stable supply of electricity for both the population and the economy.

Under the agreement, the investor has committed to completing the design, construction and commissioning of the power plants by 2026. The total volume of investment is estimated at 250 million US dollars.

The project is viewed as a significant step toward expanding green energy, fostering a sustainable economy and securing an environmentally clean future, while laying a strong foundation for Tajikistan’s long-term energy independence.
