Tajikistan Establishes Interdepartmental Commission to Regulate Artificial Intelligence

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: The Agency for Innovation and Digital Technologies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan has officially established an Interdepartmental Commission on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Regulation, marking a major step toward the country’s long-term digital transformation goals.
The commission will oversee the implementation of Tajikistan’s “Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence until 2040,” which envisions the integration of AI across key sectors including agriculture, industry, healthcare, finance, and trade. The strategy places strong emphasis on sustainable development, both within Tajikistan and throughout Central Asia.
Aligned with a recent UN General Assembly resolution encouraging global cooperation on AI, Tajikistan is working closely with regional partners to ensure responsible and inclusive technological progress. A flagship initiative under the strategy is the creation of a Regional Center for Artificial Intelligence for Central Asian Countries in Dushanbe. The center is expected to become a hub for knowledge exchange, workforce training, curriculum development, and the design of ethical and self-regulatory frameworks for AI systems.
In addition, the Agency for Innovation and Digital Technologies is spearheading nationwide digital transformation projects aimed at bridging infrastructure gaps, enhancing digital competencies, and promoting strong public-private partnerships to drive innovation.
The establishment of the commission reflects Tajikistan’s commitment to positioning itself as a forward-looking player in the global digital economy, while also ensuring that AI technologies are developed and deployed responsibly for the benefit of society.
