Tajikistan, Iran to Abolish Visa Requirements for Diplomatic and Service Passport Holders

Tajikistan

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: The government of the Republic of Tajikistan has approved a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Islamic Republic of Iran aimed at abolishing visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports.

According to Tajik media reports, the decision was made on Saturday, paving the way for enhanced diplomatic engagement and ease of travel between the two countries. The foreign ministries of Tajikistan and Iran will coordinate to determine the time and venue for signing the MoU in accordance with established procedures.

Reports further noted that minor amendments may be introduced to the draft by mutual agreement if both sides consider them necessary. The planned agreement is expected to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties, facilitating travel and official exchanges between government representatives and diplomats.

The development follows the visa waiver arrangement introduced last year for ordinary passport holders of both nations. That agreement, which came into effect in October 2024, allows citizens from Iran and Tajikistan to travel visa-free between the two countries for stays of up to 30 days within a 90-day period. Initially, the measure applied exclusively to passengers traveling on the Dushanbe–Tehran and Tehran–Dushanbe air routes.

The new MoU marks another step forward in the deepening of Iran–Tajikistan relations, reflecting the two countries’ mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation across diplomatic, economic, and cultural fields.
