Tanzila Narbaeva Holds Talks with UN Women Director to Advance Gender Equality

New York, The Gulf Observer: In a significant diplomatic engagement, Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and Chairperson of the Republican Commission on Increasing the Role of Women in Society, Gender Equality, and Family, held discussions with Sima Sami Bacchus, Director of UN Women, to explore avenues for enhancing cooperation between Uzbekistan and UN Women in advancing gender equality initiatives.
The meeting, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, focused on bolstering collaboration between Uzbekistan and UN Women, with particular emphasis on enhancing the organization’s activities within the country and jointly implementing promising projects aimed at ensuring gender equality.
Acknowledging the strides made by Uzbekistan in recent years towards achieving gender equality and promoting women’s rights and interests, both sides underscored the pivotal role of UN recommendations in guiding Uzbekistan’s efforts in this regard. They emphasized the alignment of Uzbekistan’s Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality with UN Women’s strategic plan for 2022–2025, aimed at fostering gender equality and empowering women globally.
Sima Sami Bacchus highlighted Uzbekistan’s significance as a key partner for UN Women in the region and expressed readiness to collaborate closely on large-scale transformations and the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Uzbekistan. Recognizing Tashkent’s pivotal role in promoting women’s participation in ensuring peace and security, interest was expressed in expanding cooperation within the framework of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian Countries.
Bacchus lauded Uzbekistan’s substantial progress in ensuring gender equality, identifying the country as a bridge for advancing gender issues among regional nations. The conversation culminated in an agreement to further strengthen cooperation between Uzbekistan and UN Women through the implementation of practical projects aimed at advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The dialogue between Tanzila Narbaeva and Sima Sami Bacchus signifies the commitment of Uzbekistan and UN Women to collaborative efforts aimed at creating a more inclusive and equitable society, where women have equal opportunities to contribute to and benefit from socio-economic development.
