Tô Lâm Extends Congratulations on 80th Anniversary of Vietnam’s Diplomatic Sector

Tô Lâm

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Party General Secretary Tô Lâm has extended his warm congratulations to Vietnam’s diplomatic sector on the occasion of its 80th founding anniversary (August 28, 1945 – 2025).

In a letter addressed to all generations of officials, public servants, and employees in the diplomatic service, as well as collectives and individuals engaged in foreign affairs, the Party leader conveyed his sincere greetings and best wishes.

General Secretary Lâm wrote that throughout its 80-year journey of development, Vietnam’s diplomatic sector has surmounted countless difficulties and attained historically significant achievements, making vital contributions to national construction and defence.

He recalled that since the early days of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Việtnam, diplomacy has been a pioneering force in protecting the young revolutionary government and laying the foundation for the Vietnamese revolution. During the 30 years of resistance wars for independence and reunification, foreign affairs under the leadership of the Party and guided by President Hồ Chí Minh’s diplomatic thought played an essential role in safeguarding national interests.

Following reunification, diplomacy continued to take the lead in breaking the blockade and embargo, fostering international integration, and paving the way for successful implementation of the Party’s Renewal (Đổi mới) policy, he noted.

The General Secretary underscored that foreign affairs have consistently helped maintain a peaceful and stable environment, safeguard independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, while simultaneously enhancing Vietnam’s strength, capabilities, and global standing. He highlighted that many Vietnamese diplomats have assumed important roles in international organisations and earned international respect and recognition.

Commending these achievements, he stressed that the Party and State highly value the dedication and sacrifices of generations of diplomatic officials who have remained loyal to the revolutionary cause and the nation’s foreign policy.

Looking ahead, General Secretary Lâm urged the diplomatic sector to continue serving the country’s sustainable development in the new era. He expressed confidence that, building on its proud 80-year tradition, diplomacy will remain at the forefront, proactively turning challenges into opportunities and contributing significantly to the strategic goals set by the National Party Congress.

He emphasised that foreign affairs must continue to evolve into one of Vietnam’s core strategic forces, ensuring peace and stability, firmly protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, and further elevating the nation’s international position.

The Party leader also called for closer coordination across the three key pillars of Vietnam’s external relations — Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy — under the unified leadership of the Party.
