Tô Lâm Urges Stronger Self-Reliance in Military Logistics, Confers Hero Title

Tô Lâm

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Party General Secretary Tô Lâm on Wednesday instructed the General Department of Logistics and Technical Services under the Ministry of National Defence to further promote initiative, creativity and self-reliance to ensure the timely and sufficient supply of materiel, weapons and logistical and technical equipment for both routine and unexpected missions.

The instruction was delivered while he addressed a ceremony in Hà Nội to present the title Hero of the People’s Armed Forces to the general department in recognition of its exceptionally outstanding and sudden achievements in training, combat readiness, building the People’s Army and strengthening national defence.

The Party leader stressed that logistics and technical support must meet the requirements of training, exercises, combat readiness and operations in all circumstances, as well as disaster response, post-disaster recovery and epidemic control.

He called for continued reform and improvement of logistics and technical assurance mechanisms in the new context, alongside sustained efforts to enhance the living conditions and health care of servicemen and women, thereby strengthening the overall combat capability of the armed forces.

Emphasising proactive forecasting, Tô Lâm urged stronger assessments of global trends in military science and technology, faster research and application of scientific and technological advances, and greater innovation and digital transformation in management, operations, design, manufacturing, production, repair and modernisation of weapons and equipment.

He underscored the need to prioritise strategic weapon systems and key technical equipment, while improving the quality of scientific research at research institutes and military academies within the general department and across the logistics and technical sector of the armed forces.

Entering a new era, the military logistics and technical sector, he said, must take the lead in scientific and technological innovation, actively absorbing the most advanced achievements of human knowledge and applying them to military logistics, defence technology, and the country’s broader industrialisation and modernisation drive.

Products developed by the general department and the sector should include specialised and dual-use items researched and produced in the spirit of confidence, self-reliance, autonomy, resilience and national pride, with particular emphasis on strengthening strategic autonomy.
