Tokayev Reviews Economic Reform Progress, Issues New Directives on Growth and Living Standards

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Friday held a meeting with Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov to review the implementation of presidential directives on economic reforms and the continued improvement of citizens’ well-being, the Akorda press service said.
Discussing preliminary outcomes of the country’s socio-economic development for 2025, Prime Minister Bektenov reported that manufacturing, trade and transport accounted for more than 70 percent of GDP growth, reflecting the impact of the President’s policies aimed at economic diversification.
According to the data presented, in January–November this year the transport sector expanded by 20.3 percent, construction by 14.7 percent, trade by 8.8 percent, agriculture by 6.1 percent, and manufacturing by 5.9 percent. Investment in fixed assets reached 18.5 trillion tenge, while private investment increased by 9.8 percent.
President Tokayev was also briefed on the implementation of the Joint Action Program being carried out by the Government, the National Bank, and the Agency for Financial Market Regulation and Development for 2026–2028. The program is focused on maintaining macroeconomic stability and raising the well-being of the population, with priority given to ensuring that GDP growth is accompanied by increases in real incomes and improved living standards. Measures to curb inflation are currently being implemented.
The Prime Minister further reported that the modernization of five border checkpoints on the external border was completed in December. In addition, a register of Kazakhstani manufacturers has been launched, and a unified small business support program, Isker Aimak, has been adopted.
Bektenov also informed the President about the scheduled progress of the heating season and the early financing of the 2026 sowing campaign, aimed at preserving and further increasing crop yields, with particular emphasis on the processing and export of agricultural products.
Following the meeting, President Tokayev instructed the Government to continue efforts to ensure the country’s stable development in the interests of its citizens. He issued a number of directives on attracting investment, supporting entrepreneurship, and modernizing engineering and transport infrastructure.
