Trump Pledges U.S. Mediation in Sudan Conflict Following Appeal from Saudi Crown Prince

Washington, The Gulf Observer: U.S. President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he would work to help end the war in Sudan after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman personally urged him to intervene during their meeting at the White House.

Speaking at the U.S.–Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, President Trump said his administration initiated efforts “half an hour” after the Crown Prince raised the deteriorating situation in Sudan.

He later confirmed that the United States would coordinate with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and other regional partners to halt atrocities, restore stability, and push forward efforts toward a political settlement in Sudan.

The conflict, which erupted in 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, has led to widespread destruction, mass displacement, and severe ethnic violence. Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned that conditions continue to worsen, with millions at risk.

Saudi officials reportedly believe that Trump’s direct engagement could revive stalled negotiations, citing his recent role in brokering a ceasefire in Gaza last month as evidence of his ability to drive rapid diplomatic breakthroughs.

In a social media post earlier in the day, President Trump described Sudan as “the most violent place on Earth” and “the single biggest humanitarian crisis,” stressing the urgent need for international action to deliver aid and end the suffering.

The renewed U.S. commitment comes as international pressure mounts to stop the fighting and push the warring parties back to the negotiating table.
