Trump Prioritises Saving Lives Ahead of Alaska Peace Summit on Ukraine

Washington, The Gulf Observer: U.S. President Donald Trump has said his main objective at Friday’s peace summit in Anchorage, Alaska, is to save lives on both the Ukrainian and Russian sides, as the war in Ukraine continues.

The high-level meeting, announced last week, has raised hopes it could pave the way toward ending the conflict, according to media reports.

Speaking at a Thursday afternoon press conference at the White House, President Trump was asked whether the United States might consider offering Russia access to rare-earth minerals as an incentive to halt the war.

“We’re going to see what happens with our meeting,” he replied. “It’s going to be very important for Russia and very important for us, only in that we are going to save a lot of lives.”

The Anchorage summit will bring together senior officials and is expected to focus on potential frameworks for a ceasefire and future negotiations. While details of the U.S. negotiating position remain limited, the administration has emphasised humanitarian priorities alongside broader security considerations.
