Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: The United States remains steadfast in its commitment to being a strong partner and friend of ASEAN nations “for many generations to come,” President Donald Trump declared during the 13th ASEAN–U.S. Summit, held in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday (October 26).

In his opening remarks, President Trump described the current period as the “Golden Age of America,” emphasizing that it was a time of unprecedented opportunity for cooperation and prosperity across the Pacific.

“One year ago, we were in a different position, but now we’re in the best position we’ve ever been,” he said. “Together, we can create incredible prosperity for the nations on both sides of the Pacific Ocean and seize new opportunities for all of our people.”

The U.S. leader praised Malaysia’s hospitality and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s role in organizing the summit. “It’s been an amazing experience to see some of the things that we’ve done. The Prime Minister made sure I saw everything — every single thing. We even rode in the car together,” Trump remarked, drawing smiles from attendees.

He extended his gratitude to all ASEAN leaders and expressed special appreciation to Prime Minister Anwar for hosting what he described as “an incredibly successful day for Malaysia.”

“I promised I’d be here when the Prime Minister helped us so beautifully with our peace treaty between two very strong countries,” Trump said, referring to the Thailand–Cambodia peace deal, known as the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords, which he witnessed earlier in the day alongside Anwar.

The U.S. president congratulated ASEAN countries for their unity and their decision to send observers to support the peace process between Thailand and Cambodia. “Today’s signing represents just one of eight conflicts that we’ve ended in eight months,” Trump stated.

He went on to highlight broader global peace efforts under his administration, adding, “The Trump presidency stands very honored to have had the opportunity to save millions of lives. That also includes the end of the war in Gaza — an agreement involving 59 countries, many of which are represented here at this table, including Indonesia, my dear friend. I appreciate it.”

Concluding his address, Trump reaffirmed Washington’s enduring support for the ASEAN region. “The United States is for all nations in this magnificent region. We’re all watching and seeing what’s taking place. Thank you very much,” he said.
