Trump Signs Proclamation Imposing New Travel Restrictions on Multiple Countries

Washington, The Gulf Observer: U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a new proclamation imposing broad travel restrictions on nationals from several countries, according to media reports released on Wednesday, citing officials from his administration.

The proclamation reportedly enforces full entry bans on nationals from 12 countries, namely Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

Additionally, the proclamation imposes partial travel restrictions on citizens of seven other countries, including Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

The move marks a renewed expansion of Trump’s approach to immigration and border security, which featured prominently during his first term. In 2017, Trump issued a controversial executive order barring entry to travelers from several majority-Muslim countries, a policy that faced multiple legal challenges before being upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2018.

The policy was rescinded by President Joe Biden in 2021, who described it as “a stain on our national conscience.”

The latest proclamation signals a potential return to restrictive immigration measures as Trump campaigns for a return to office, reigniting debates over national security, migration, and international relations.
