Trump to Hold Bilateral Meeting with Malaysian Anwar Ibrahim During 47th ASEAN Summit

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: United States President Donald Trump is set to hold an expanded bilateral meeting and signing ceremony with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday (October 26) during the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits taking place in the Malaysian capital.
According to the tentative schedule released on the America’s Roll Call website, President Trump will arrive in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday morning and meet with Prime Minister Anwar in the afternoon at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Following the bilateral meeting, the US President is scheduled to attend a signing ceremony in the evening with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The signing is reportedly related to an agreement on resolving a border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand.
Later in the day, Trump will participate in the 13th ASEAN–US Summit and a working dinner with ASEAN leaders before departing Malaysia on Monday (October 27).
According to earlier media reports, President Trump will subsequently travel to Tokyo for a meeting with Japan’s first female Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, before heading to Busan, South Korea, on Wednesday (October 29) to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D. Kagan stated on Thursday (October 22) that discussions during Trump’s visit are expected to focus on semiconductor tariffs, trade and investment, regional security, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
This visit marks Trump’s first official trip to Asia in his second term as President and the first visit by a US leader to Malaysia since former President Barack Obama’s visit a decade ago.
Malaysia, which holds the ASEAN Chairmanship this year under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” will host the 47th ASEAN Summit from Sunday to Tuesday (October 28), welcoming leaders from ASEAN member states and key dialogue partners including the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, and India.
Other world leaders expected to attend include Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, European Council President António Costa, and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
