Madrid, The Gulf Observer: Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan, accompanied by Maria Begona Gomez Fernandez, the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, visited the renowned Prado Museum in Madrid during her official visit to the city for the 8th Türkiye-Spain Intergovernmental Summit.

During the tour, First Lady Erdogan and Mrs. Fernandez explored the museum, which houses a prestigious collection of royal artworks. The Prado Museum features masterpieces by acclaimed Spanish artists such as El Greco, Diego Velazquez, Francisco de Zurbaran, and Goya, as well as notable works by Dutch artists like Bosch and Rubens.

Mrs. Fernandez provided detailed insights into the exhibits, enhancing the tour experience for First Lady Erdogan. The visit included posing for photographs in front of significant works, including Velazquez’s “Las Meninas” and Zurbaran’s “Still Life with Lemons, Oranges and a Rose.” As a gesture of hospitality, Fernandez presented Erdogan with a replica of an object from Zurbaran’s 1650 painting “Still Life with Vessels.”

The museum visit also featured interactions with students, where both First Ladies engaged in conversations and took photographs together. Following the tour, Erdogan and Fernandez enjoyed a luncheon.

Emine Erdogan shared her experience on social media, stating:

“We visited one of the country’s oldest museums, the Prado Museum, during the 8th Türkiye-Spain Intergovernmental Summit in Madrid. We examined collections of paintings and sculptures from the 12th to the 19th centuries, as well as the Spanish royal family collections. Each piece in the museum reflects a segment of Spain’s past. I thank Mrs. Fernandez for her warm hospitality.”

The visit to the Prado Museum was a highlight of the cultural exchange between Türkiye and Spain, further strengthening the ties between the two nations.
