Turkish Intelligence Neutralizes Senior PKK/KCK Terrorist

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: In a targeted cross-border anti-terror operation, the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) has successfully neutralized a senior PKK/KCK terrorist in northern Iraq, according to security sources. The operation focused on apprehending Gulsun Silgir, codenamed Sara Hogir Riha, a key figure responsible for recruiting children into the terror group.

Security sources, speaking on condition of anonymity due to media restrictions, disclosed that Silgir had played a significant role in executing terrorist activities since 2011, with a specific focus on deceiving and recruiting young individuals to join the PKK. The operation, executed on Monday, targeted Silgir in the Penjwin district of the Sulaymaniyah region in Iraq, where she had been actively involved since 2021.

The term “neutralize” in the context used by Turkish authorities implies that the terrorist in question has either surrendered, been killed, or captured.

The PKK, a designated terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union, has a history of utilizing northern Iraq as a base for planning cross-border attacks into Türkiye. In response to this ongoing threat, Türkiye initiated Operation Claw-Lock in April 2022. This operation specifically targets PKK hideouts in Iraq’s northern Metina, Zap, and Avasin-Basyan regions near the Turkish border.

The successful neutralization of Gulsun Silgir underscores Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens. The PKK’s more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye has resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.
