Türkiye and Indonesia Seal Record Defence Deal on KAAN Fighter Jet Exports and Missile Cooperation

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced a landmark defence export agreement under which Türkiye will supply 48 domestically produced KAAN fighter jets to Indonesia, marking the largest defence export deal in Turkish history.
In a statement released via his official account on platform X, President Erdoğan hailed the agreement as a “very important and welcome advancement” in Türkiye’s national defence industry. The KAAN aircraft, a fifth-generation stealth fighter jet developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), will be produced in Türkiye, with provisions for Indonesian participation in the production process.
“I hope this agreement, which highlights the progress and current capabilities of our national defence industry, proves beneficial for both Türkiye and Indonesia,” Erdoğan said, while also expressing appreciation to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for his pivotal role in finalising the strategic cooperation.
The President also extended his congratulations to the Turkish Defence Industry Agency, TAI, and all institutions involved, affirming that Türkiye will continue to provide steadfast support for its defence sector.
The KAAN fighter jet is equipped with dual engines generating 13,000 kilograms of thrust each, capable of reaching speeds of Mach 1.8, and features advanced stealth technology. TAI is also progressing toward a sixth-generation model, which will integrate artificial intelligence, enhanced sensors, and manned-unmanned teaming capabilities.
In a parallel development, Roketsan, Türkiye’s leading missile manufacturer, signed two agreements with Indonesia’s PT Republik Defence Indonesia, during the INDO Defense 2025 exhibition held in Jakarta. The contracts cover the sale of ATMACA Anti-Ship Missiles and the joint production of missile systems aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s naval defence capabilities.
Roketsan Chairman Murat Ikinci confirmed the agreements in a statement on X, underlining the growing defence cooperation between the two nations.
The strategic partnership is set to significantly enhance both countries’ defence capabilities and highlights a deepening bilateral relationship grounded in mutual security and technological advancement.
