Türkiye and Syria Sign MoU to Establish Joint Business Council for Post-War Economic Cooperation

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye and Syria have signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Türkiye-Syria Joint Business Council, marking a major step toward re-establishing institutional economic cooperation between the two nations, Türkiye’s Trade Ministry announced on Wednesday.
The agreement was formalized during a roundtable meeting chaired by Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal Al-Shaar and Türkiye’s Deputy Trade Minister Ozgur Volkan Agar. The session was also attended by members of the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Türkiye (DEIK), a Syrian delegation, and business leaders from both countries.
Discussions primarily focused on opportunities for cooperation in Syria’s post-war reconstruction, especially in infrastructure development and public services, with emphasis on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models.
“To re-establish institutional cooperation between the two countries, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to establish the Türkiye-Syria Business Council,” the ministry stated.
In addition, nine further MoUs were signed between civil society organisations from both sides, laying a strong and sustainable foundation for bilateral collaboration.
The Trade Ministry reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to enhancing direct communication between private sectors of both countries and pledged to continue efforts to deepen and institutionalise economic and commercial relations.
