Türkiye, Burkina Faso Strengthen Ties During Deputy Foreign Minister Duran’s Official Visit

Burkina Faso, The Gulf Observer: Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burhanettin Duran concluded a two-day official visit to Burkina Faso, aimed at bolstering bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation on regional security issues, particularly in the Sahel. The visit was confirmed by sources from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his stay, Deputy Minister Duran was received by Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo and held substantive discussions with Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traore. Talks focused on the evolving security landscape in Burkina Faso and the wider Sahel region, with a shared emphasis on counterterrorism efforts, political cooperation, and development.

Prime Minister Ouedraogo highlighted the mutual commitment of both nations to broaden and deepen bilateral ties, emphasizing the strong political will on both sides to advance cooperation across diverse sectors.

Foreign Minister Traore praised Türkiye’s unwavering support during Burkina Faso’s challenging fight against terrorism. “Türkiye has proven to be a reliable friend in difficult times, and we value its contributions to restoring security and peace in our country,” he said, adding that Turkish assistance has played a critical role in helping to reclaim territory from terrorist groups.

Minister Traore further affirmed that Burkina Faso regards Türkiye as a strategic partner and expressed confidence in the potential for expanded cooperation between Ouagadougou and Ankara.

As part of the visit, the two countries signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between their respective foreign ministries, laying the foundation for closer diplomatic and technical engagement.

It was also agreed that a round of political consultations covering all dimensions of bilateral relations will be held in Ankara later this year.

Deputy Minister Duran’s visit is seen as part of Türkiye’s broader strategy to strengthen ties with African nations and contribute to regional stability through security cooperation, diplomatic engagement, and development support.
