Lefkosa, The Gulf Observer: Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz on Friday reaffirmed that the development of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) remains a national priority for Türkiye, encompassing both political and economic dimensions.

Speaking at a joint press conference with TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Yılmaz emphasized that overcoming the isolation of the TRNC and advancing its growth are central to Türkiye’s agenda. He highlighted ongoing investments in infrastructure, education, tourism, and technology, underscoring Ankara’s comprehensive support for the TRNC.

“Politics should serve the people and be action-oriented,” Yılmaz said, citing the Lefkosa Ring Road, inaugurated by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as a key project to ease traffic congestion in the capital. He also pointed to major health sector initiatives, including the foundation of the new Lefkosa State Hospital and plans to begin construction of the Pamuklu State Hospital in the fall.

Yılmaz noted that he would attend the launch of the TRNC E-Government Mobile Application System on Saturday, describing it as a milestone in expanding digital services and enhancing public administration. He also referred to ongoing promotional efforts for “Island Cyprus,” affordable flight initiatives, and Erdoğan’s close oversight of commitments made during his visits to the TRNC.

On the political front, the vice president reiterated Türkiye’s support for TRNC President Ersin Tatar’s two-state solution vision, stressing that a just and lasting settlement in Cyprus must reflect the realities on the island.

“The homeland and guarantor Türkiye will continue to firmly stand by the Turkish Cypriots, strongly support President Ersin Tatar’s two-state solution, and defend the rights and legal entitlements of the TRNC,” Yılmaz declared.

Prime Minister Üstel, in turn, thanked Türkiye for its continued support, noting that investments in transportation, technology, and healthcare have significantly improved daily life for Turkish Cypriots. He emphasized that the deep-rooted relationship between Türkiye and the TRNC is grounded not only in diplomacy and economics but also in shared history, culture, and brotherhood.

“Our relations with Türkiye are strong and vital for us. In recent years, these ties have touched the lives of our people, eased their daily lives, and enabled them to look to the future with confidence,” Üstel said.
