Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and UAE Discuss Yemen Developments in Phone Talks

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate phone calls on Friday with his Saudi and United Arab Emirates counterparts to discuss the latest developments in Yemen, Turkish diplomatic sources said.
According to the sources, Fidan spoke with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Further details of the discussions were not immediately disclosed.
The talks come amid heightened tensions in Yemen following a significant escalation in early December, when forces of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) took control of the Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra provinces. The two provinces together account for nearly half of Yemen’s territory and border Saudi Arabia.
Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia accused the UAE of encouraging STC forces to carry out military operations along the kingdom’s southern border in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra. Abu Dhabi has denied the allegations.
The STC has long claimed that Yemen’s southern regions have been politically and economically marginalized by successive governments and has called for secession. Yemen’s internationally recognised authorities reject these claims and continue to reaffirm their commitment to the country’s unity.
Türkiye has maintained close diplomatic engagement with regional actors as the situation in Yemen continues to evolve.
