Türkiye’s Carpet Exports Reach $2.8 Billion in 2024, Driven by Strong Global Demand

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye’s carpet exports soared to $2.8 billion in 2024, accounting for 589.2 million square meters of carpets sold worldwide, according to data from the Southeastern Anatolian Exporters’ Association, compiled by Anadolu Agency.
The export figures represent a 4.2% increase compared to 2023, underscoring the resilience and growing demand for Turkish carpets in international markets.
Machine-made carpets dominated the sector, contributing $2.2 billion in revenue, followed by specially designed tufted carpets at $530 million, handmade carpets at $108.9 million, and rugs at $9.2 million.
The United States emerged as the largest importer of Turkish carpets, accounting for $784 million in exports. Saudi Arabia ranked second with $287.2 million, followed by Iraq with $265.3 million, and the United Kingdom with $187.5 million. Notably, exports to Iraq witnessed a remarkable 35.6% year-on-year growth in 2024.
Gaziantep, a southeastern Turkish province renowned for its carpet production, led the country’s exports with nearly $2 billion, while Istanbul contributed $673.5 million, and the northwestern city of Uşak accounted for $76.7 million.
Zeynal Abidin Kaplan, the head of the Southeastern Anatolian Exporters’ Association, highlighted the success of foreign trade delegations to key markets, including the US, India, Australia, Malaysia, Mauritania, Senegal, and the UK. He expressed optimism about expanding exports further through upcoming international events and engagements.
