Türkiye’s Hakan Fidan Holds Regional Calls Following U.S.-Israel Strikes on Iran

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Saturday held a series of separate telephone conversations with his counterparts from Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Indonesia following reported strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran.
According to sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Fidan spoke individually with Abbas Araghchi of Iran, Fuad Hussein of Iraq, Badr Abdelatty of Egypt, and Sugiono of Indonesia.
During the calls, the top diplomats reviewed the latest regional developments and discussed possible steps to end the attacks and prevent further escalation.
The reported strikes were carried out early Saturday by the United States and Israel, which cited alleged threats posed by the Iranian government. Video statements regarding the operation were released by U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The escalation comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts concerning Iran’s nuclear program. Talks between Washington and Tehran had been continuing under Oman’s mediation, with the latest round of negotiations in Geneva concluding on Thursday.
Israel had also launched a 12-day conflict with Iran last June, with the United States later joining the campaign and carrying out strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites.
Türkiye has consistently called for restraint and dialogue to resolve disputes and avoid further destabilization in the region.
