Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: On March 19, 2026, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag, visited the International Equestrian Complex “Equuleus” during his official trip to the People’s Republic of China, underscoring the cultural and historical significance of the renowned Akhal-Teke horse.

Upon arrival, Hero-Arkadag was warmly welcomed by leaders of the China Horse Industry Association, representatives of academic institutions, and officials of the “Equuleus” complex. A ceremonial reception featured traditional Chinese music performed by local musicians along the main entrance walkway.

During the tour, the distinguished guest was introduced to the complex’s modern facilities and ongoing efforts in training sport horses and organizing international equestrian competitions. A special presentation of horses was arranged in his honor, alongside an exhibition of Chinese dog breeds.

Highlighting the cultural exchange, Hero-Arkadag viewed a carpet depicting an Akhal-Teke horse and later personally inspected the breed at the complex. In keeping with ancient Turkmen traditions, he tied an alaja around the neck of one of the horses, symbolizing goodwill and respect.

The Chairman also visited an art exhibition at the administrative building, which showcased the global cultural importance of the Akhal-Teke horse. Following the exhibition, he met with members of the International Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding Association and Chinese enthusiasts of the breed.

Addressing the gathering, Hero-Arkadag expressed gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping for the invitation and emphasized the role of the Akhal-Teke horse in strengthening bilateral ties. He noted that a newly gifted horse named Gadyrly, presented on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan, symbolized the deepening friendship between the two nations, building on a similar gesture made 12 years earlier.

He highlighted Turkmenistan’s rich equestrian traditions, including the annual celebration of the National Day of the Turkmen Horse, scheduled for the last Sunday of April. He also noted that the International Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding Association, headquartered in Ashgabat, is currently led by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Hero-Arkadag further emphasized Turkmenistan’s commitment to preserving national heritage, including the breeding of Turkmen Alabai dogs, and invited international participation in the respective associations.

On behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, he extended an invitation to Chinese representatives to attend the upcoming National Day of the Turkmen Horse celebrations, as well as major festivities planned for September in Arkadag city.

The visit concluded with a commemorative group photograph, after which Hero-Arkadag departed from Beijing Capital International Airport for Turkmenistan, marking the end of a culturally significant and diplomatically engaging visit.
