Turkmen National Leader Meets UN Envoy to Discuss Peace, Neutrality and Regional Cooperation

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, met on Monday with Kaha Imnadze, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, Turkmenistan’s official media reported.

Imnadze conveyed greetings from UN Secretary-General António Guterres and expressed high appreciation for Turkmenistan’s initiatives aimed at strengthening peace, promoting sustainable development and supporting the activities of the regional center. He also highlighted the country’s constructive role in advancing dialogue and cooperation in Central Asia.

During the meeting, Berdimuhamedov stressed the significance of holding the talks ahead of the International Day of Neutrality. He noted that, following Turkmenistan’s initiative, the year 2025 was designated as the International Year of Peace and Trust, reaffirming the nation’s long-standing commitment to neutrality and diplomacy.

Both sides discussed preparations for a high-level international forum to be held in Ashgabat as the concluding event of the International Year of Peace and Trust. They emphasized that Turkmenistan’s partnership with the United Nations remains strategic, multidimensional and focused on promoting stability across the region.

The meeting concluded with mutual confirmation of readiness to further deepen cooperation and continue a constructive, forward-looking dialogue in support of regional peace and global stability.
