Turkmen President meets with DG WTO in New York
New York, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in New York on Monday.
The meeting that took place on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly discussed Turkmenistan’s accession process to the WTO, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala announced on X, formerly known as Twitter.
During the meeting, it was stated that a special Government Commission is functioning in Turkmenistan to study matters related to the WTO accession, as well as to prepare relevant proposals.
Turkmenistan was granted the status of WTO observer in July 2020 and the status of acceding country (active observer) to the WTO in February 2022.
Turkmen President’s visit to New York for UN General Assembly session started on Sunday. On Monday, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also held bilateral talks with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the President of the European Council Charles Michel, and the President of South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol.
