Turkmen Vice Premier Holds Talks with Tatarstan Head Rustam Minnikhanov

ST. Petersburg, The Gulf Observer: Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, met with Nokerguly Atagulyyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, on Thursday on the sidelines of the 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), according to a statement from the Tatarstan press service.
During the meeting, Minnikhanov conveyed his gratitude to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, for his continued support in promoting interregional cooperation under the broader Russia–Turkmenistan partnership.
Minnikhanov highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties binding Tatarstan and Turkmenistan, as well as the strength of their trade and economic relations. He noted the successful operations of several major Tatarstan enterprises in Turkmenistan, including KAMAZ, Kazan Helicopter Plant, Zelenodolsk Shipyard, KER-Holding, and Eidos.
Reviewing current economic performance, Minnikhanov stated that trade turnover between Tatarstan and Turkmenistan exceeded $39 million in 2024. He emphasized the need to build on this progress by expanding cooperation in key sectors such as oil exploration, gas transportation, automotive manufacturing, aviation, shipbuilding, and chemical production.
“There is considerable potential to further develop our economic ties,” he said, stressing the mutual benefits of enhanced engagement.
In addition to economic matters, the two sides discussed strengthening humanitarian cooperation. Minnikhanov underscored the importance of expanding joint initiatives in the fields of science, education, and culture, reflecting the broader vision for deepening bilateral ties.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both parties to further advance strategic cooperation and to unlock new opportunities in both the economic and social spheres.
