Turkmenistan and Hungary Hold Sixth Intergovernmental Economic Commission Meeting in Ashgabat

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The sixth regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Hungarian Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Ashgabat on September 29–30, 2025, bringing together senior officials and business representatives from both countries.
The session was co-chaired by Turkmenistan’s Minister of Finance and Economy Mammetguly Astanagulov and Ádám Ştifter, Deputy State Secretary for Eastern Relations at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The agenda covered a wide spectrum of political, diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian issues, with a particular focus on identifying new and promising areas of partnership. The sides reviewed the progress made on decisions from the previous session and underlined the Commission’s role as an effective platform for advancing bilateral cooperation.
Discussions encompassed traditional areas of collaboration such as agriculture, the food industry, water resources management, environmental protection, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals. The parties also exchanged views on expanding cooperation in science and education, culture, sports, and tourism.
Special emphasis was placed on the importance of finalizing an intergovernmental agreement on the encouragement and mutual protection of investments. Both sides agreed that the document would create a legal framework for attracting Hungarian investment into Turkmenistan and enhance economic cooperation.
Participants highlighted the need for regular consultations and reaffirmed their confidence that the new understandings reached in Ashgabat will further deepen constructive dialogue in the mutual interests of both nations.
The meeting concluded with the signing of the Protocol of the sixth session, with the two sides agreeing to convene the seventh meeting of the Commission in Budapest.
